HOW TO HELP

  PROJECT ALAOTRA - NATURE TOURISM

With this module MWC brings sustainable nature tourism to the region of Alaotra, namely to the village of Andreba. This serves as a source of further income to the villagers and at the same time encourages them to protect their unique environment.

A new tourist destination
For this MWC has built Camp Bandro, a tourist facility outside the village and close to the boarder of Lake Alaotra. Camp Bandro consists of a typical Sihanaka house for accommodation, a separate kitchen, showers, a toilet as well as a house for the guardian. The inauguration of Camp Bandro took place at the beginning of June 2007.

MWC has furthermore trained guides, so that tourists visiting the village have the possibility to take a guided boat tour in a pirogue. On the lake and in the restricted area of the papyrus marshes, the Bandro Parc, they can observe the rich variety of birds of Alaotra and, with a little luck, even the bandro.

Benefit for the community
The module nature tourism is a community based project. Therefore income from this tourism will partly be used for the village to finance micro projects such as the construction of public toilets or wells for the supply of clean drinking water.

If you would like to visit Andreba and Camp Bandro click here for information on prices, reservations and how to get there.
