ABOUT MWC

MWC SECTIONS

Education is one of the most important of requisites for a better living standard as well as for sustainable conservation. MWC will therefore implement environmental education in the public primary schools (EPP) of the region of Alaotra. The goal is to raise public sensitivity and appreciation for the importance of an intact lake and preserved marshes.

The basis of this education program is a comic developed by MWC and realized by the Malagasy artist Ramafa. It is called „AROVY FA HARENA“ which means „Protect/preserve because it is richeness". The nine episodes tell the adventures of the village boy Fidy, the Bandro Malala and their friends.

Each episode addresses a specific conservation issue of the local ecoysytem and will be starting point for further actvities on the subject. The teachers will be trained, informed in detail and supplied with supportive educational material by MWC in collaboration with the Ivoloina Zoo.

After a test phase in eight selected classes the impact of the comic book will be evaluated and improvements made based on the feedback from the teachers. Starting in 2007 MWC will then gradually provide these comic books to all schools in the Alaotra region.
