  RANOMAFANA

How to get there:
Just take a Taxi Brousse to Fianarantso and from there take the next one to the village of Ranomafana. The road to Ranomafana is in pretty bad shape and if it's raining be prepared to walk some stretches of the journey. The entrance to the National Park is a little up the road (about 3 km). Early in the morning an (expensive) taxi will bring you there.

What you can do and see:
At the entrance of the National Park you will find the Park office. There you can book several tours. Except for the duration (two to six hours) there are no big differences between the tours. You'll probably see the same species on each of them, since all the guides know exactly where to find which animal and will lead you straight there. Anyway, we recommend you to book a guide for one or two days, because this will give you enough time to enter the primary forest a little further. Ranomafana is best known for its 118 bird species and 12 lemur species, including the golden bamboo lemur.

Housing:
Ranomafana is a very small village. Nevertheless you can find many hotels, motels, rooms to rent as well as a camping site. There are plenty of restaurants and even hot springs (hence the name of the village: rano mafana means hot water) where you can take a bath if you dare.
