| HISTORY
2002 - the information platform
In June 2003 Patrick Waeber and Pascal Girod initiated an internet
platform about conservation and developmental work in Madgascar,
named "Madgascar Wildlife Conservation - The Information
Platform". Its aim was to give an overview of the environmental
problems Madagascar is facing and to offer a wide arrange of information
on the island as well as the possibility of information interchange.
2003 - the association
In October 2003 the association Madagascar Wildlife Conservation
was founded in Antananarivo by Malagasy and Swiss biologists.
Immediately, the first project was brought to life: Project Andreba
is a nature tourism project aiming to enhance the awareness of
the villagers of the importance of their natural environment through
alternative incomes for the community.
2004 - development
In the following years, project Andeba was expanded to Project
Alaotra. Also MWC made contact with other organisations working
in Madagascar, leading to many fruitful collaborations. One of
them finally led to the second project: with Tampina
- Ecole pour tous MWC aims to give all children of the village
Tampina the possibility to attend primary school.
2005 - the sections
In 2005 two sections of MWC were founded in Switzerland
(April) and Germany
(October) with the goals to do better and more efficient fundraising
for the conservation projects of the Malagasy Association (MWC).
