HOW TO HELP
  ANDASIBE/MANTADIA

How to get there:
Take a Taxi Brousse to Moramanga, there you should have no problems finding one to Andasibe (Perinet). Ask the driver to drop you at the entrance of the Park. Otherwise you'll have to walk back from the village, which takes about 20 minutes.
To get to Mantadia is slightly more difficult. This part of the forest is further from the village and the road leading there is private and so there is no bus or taxi to take you there. But if you ask villagers at the entrance of Andasibe, they will organize a driver and a car for you. It won't be cheap though (150`000 Fmg).

What you can do and see:
In Andasibe you can only book short tours (two to six hours). Like in Ranomafana this part of the National Park is more like a zoo. Other tourists and their guides will surround you. The good thing is however, that you will almost certainly see an Indri. Indris are the biggest of all living lemurs. And even if you don't see them, you'll hear them for sure…
Andasibe is also well known for its orchids, which are on display in a separate orchid garden. You can also book a guided night trip that takes about one hour. You won't enter the park though, but walk along the road from the park entrance to the village. If you are patient enough or if you walk not far behind another group and therefore know where to look, you might discover some animals by yourself.
In Mantadia you can see Sifakas, another large lemur species, and with a little luck you can see Indris as well. But what makes Mantadia really worth the trip is the forest itself, which is completely different to all the other Madagascan? forests. It's very clear and bright, the trees are covered with plenty of lichens - it's simply beautiful.

Housing:
There are a couple of hotels in and around the village ranging from luxurious to very simple. Right next to the entrance of Andasibe you will find a camping site with hardly any infrastructure, but it is free. If you prefer to have a shower you can set up your tent next to the station hotel and use their bath (cost: around 25000 FMG).
