PROJECT TAMPINA
Initial situation
Tampina is a small village situated on the East coast of Madagascar,
where lowland rainforests are hosting a huge variety of wildlife
and endemic flora. However, since tavy (the Malagasy term for
'slash and burn') cultivation is very common, large areas have
already been degraded and destroyed causing an impoverishment
in biodiversity.
In 2005 116 families lived in Tampina with a total 162 scholars
but only one school building and only one teacher.
Goal and Procedure
The aim of the project was to give all the children the possibility
to attend a primary school education.
In collaboration with the Jane
Goodall Institute of Switzerland the old school building was
reconditioned and furnished, a second building has been buildt
at the beginning of 2007 and was inaugurated in May. Finally a
water pump was installed on the school ground.
